The 125th year anniversary of Southwestern College brings a festive mood to the campus. One thing to celebrate is the opening of the new Richard L. Jantz, turf stadium, which did away from the grassy surface.

Take a drive down one of the brick streets individual to Winfield and you will experience the friendly atmosphere of small-town life. The welcoming character of the town continues from Southwestern College to downtown to Island Park. In part, the charm is upheld through the quaint shops and stores in the downtown area. In most cases, the people behind those shop counters are not only dedicated store owners, but also Winfield citizens.

It can be stressful trying to balance school, activities, and athletics. Some students find themselves attempting to fit a job into their busy schedules as well. Work is available at local restaurants, grocery stores and other local businesses, but many students have discovered the advantages of working on campus.

A homosexual boy is shunned. He is different to the other students. And he is ignored. Stares pierce the back of his neck, they whisper. There is something different about him. He is a homosexual, and this causes rage, fear and confusion in some of the students. They do not understand him, so they punish him by taking his voice.
